Card Filters

Narrow one card with its own conditions, including date ranges that move forward on their own.

Overview

A card filter narrows a single card. Use it when a card has a fixed purpose that viewers shouldn't change, such as a KPI that always shows this month's revenue against a monthly target.

Card filters work on charts, KPIs, tables and Matrix tables. They apply on top of any dashboard filters the card responds to.

Add a card filter

  1. Open the dashboard in edit mode and choose Edit visual on the card.
  2. Open More options and choose Card filters.
  3. Choose Add condition, then pick a field, an operator and a value.
  4. Choose Apply filters.

The Where clause at the bottom of the dialog shows the condition the card runs. Turn on Advanced mode to nest conditions in groups.

Relative and fixed dates

For a date field with Between or Not between, the date picker offers three tabs. Your choice decides whether the range stays put or moves forward with time.

TabWhat the card keepsExample
PresetsA relative range, updated every time the card runsThis month, Last 7 days, Last 2 weeks
RelativeA relative range you build from a unit and offsets3 months ago to this month
StaticThe exact dates you pickSep 1, 2026 to Sep 30, 2026

A relative range resolves when the card runs, so a "This month" revenue tile shows October from October 1 onward, with no edits. Scheduled reports and PDF exports use the month of the run.

A relative filter shows its label and today's dates, for example This month with "Oct 01 to Oct 31, 2026". Quarter and year ranges show the label only, because their dates follow your calendar, including a fiscal year if your organization uses one.

Picking dates on the Static tab, changing the operator or changing the field turns a relative range back into a fixed one.

Ranges that follow your data

Cards built by an agent or a generated dashboard can count back from your latest data instead of from today. The filter reads Last 3 months of data and shows no dates: the range ends at the newest row the card's other filters allow, which is known only when the card runs. When new rows arrive, the range moves with them.

A card on a snapshot dataset can filter its snapshot date to Latest value, so it shows only the most recent snapshot and never adds several snapshots together. When the card's other filters leave no rows, the card is empty rather than showing an error.

Picking dates, changing the operator or changing the field replaces either one with your choice.

Comparisons

When a card compares against a previous period, both periods use the card's own range. A "This month" KPI compares the current month with the previous month.

A range that runs to date compares with the same days of the previous period. At 3:30 PM on October 2, month to date compares September 1 through 3:30 PM on September 2. When the previous month is shorter, the comparison ends on its last day: on March 31, month to date compares February 1 through 3:30 PM on February 28. Quarter to date and year to date work the same way, following your fiscal calendar if your organization uses one.

Any other range that isn't a whole period, such as the last 7 days, compares with the same span just before it.

Card filters and dashboard filters

A card responds to both its own filters and the dashboard filters mapped to it, and a row must pass all of them. When the global date filter targets the same date field as a card's own range, the global range takes the lead while it applies. A Latest value filter stays in place: the global range decides which snapshots count, and the card shows the latest one inside it.
