Dashboard Management

Create, organize, and manage your dashboards

The Dashboard Management panel provides a centralized location to view, create, and manage all your dashboards.

Accessing the Management Panel

The panel is a resizable sidebar on the left side of your dashboard.

To open the panel:

  • Click the hamburger menu icon (☰) in the top-left corner of your dashboard

Panel layout:

  • Header: Contains "+ Create" button (if you have permissions) and search button
  • Content: Scrollable list of all accessible dashboards
  • Footer: Your user profile (name, with role and email shown on hover)
  • Resizable: Drag the panel edge to adjust width (20-30% of screen)

Creating Dashboards

Users with POWER_USER (tenant users) or AUTHOR/ADMIN roles (organization users) can create new dashboards.

To create a dashboard:

  1. Open the Management Panel
  2. Click "+ Create" in the panel header
  3. Enter a dashboard title and optional description
  4. Click Create

The new dashboard will be created with you as the owner, and you'll be automatically navigated to it.

Searching Dashboards

Click the search icon in the panel header to reveal the search input. Search filters dashboards by title or description in real-time.

The search uses a progressive disclosure pattern - the input appears when you click the search button and auto-focuses for immediate typing.

Managing Dashboards

Each dashboard in the list displays as a card showing:

  • Dashboard title and description
  • Privacy status (lock icon for private, users icon for shared)
  • Actions menu (•••) with available operations

Available actions (via the actions menu):

  • Edit Details: Modify title and description
  • Duplicate: Create a copy of the dashboard with all its visualizations
  • Toggle Privacy: Switch between private and shared
  • Share: Configure who can access the dashboard and their access level
  • Delete: Remove the dashboard permanently (only available to owners)

To open a dashboard: Click anywhere on the dashboard card.

Deletion Warning

Deleting a dashboard is permanent and cannot be undone. All visualizations and configurations will be lost.

Dashboard Hub

When no specific dashboard is selected, you'll see the Dashboard Hub - a landing page showing all accessible dashboards.

Dashboard Hub features:

  • Grid view of all dashboards you own or have access to
  • Quick navigation to any dashboard
  • Visual dashboard previews
  • Search and filtering (when you have 5+ dashboards)

To return to Dashboard Hub:

  • Delete the currently active dashboard
  • Clear the dashboard selection (if no dashboard is specified in your authentication token)

Organizing Dashboards

Privacy Settings

  • Private: Only you can see the dashboard (until you share it)
  • Public: Anyone with access can see it (based on tenant boundaries)

Use privacy settings to:

  • Keep work-in-progress dashboards private
  • Share completed dashboards publicly within your tenant
  • Control visibility before formal sharing

Best Practices

For VIEWER Role Users

If you have a VIEWER role:

  • You can browse all dashboards shared with you
  • Search works to find specific dashboards
  • You cannot create, edit, delete, or perform any actions
  • The "+ Create" button and action menus will be hidden

For POWER_USER Role Users

If you have a POWER_USER role:

  • You can create unlimited dashboards
  • You have full control over dashboards you create (OWNER access)
  • You may have limited access to dashboards others share with you
  • Use the management panel to stay organized as your dashboard count grows

Troubleshooting

Cannot Create Dashboards

Problem: The create button is not visible in the Management Panel.

Solutions:

  • Check your user role - only POWER_USER (tenant) or AUTHOR/ADMIN (organization) roles can create dashboards
  • Contact your administrator to update your role if needed

Cannot See a Dashboard

Problem: A dashboard you expect to see is not in the list.

Solutions:

  • Check if it was deleted
  • Verify you have access (ask the owner to share it with you)
  • Try searching by title or description
  • Refresh the panel to reload the list

Dashboard List Not Updating

Problem: Changes to dashboards don't appear in the list.

Solutions:

  • Close and reopen the management panel
  • Refresh your browser
  • Check your network connection
